17th century chapel
The Chapel of San Grato was presumably built around the mid-17th century on the ancient ruins of a votive templet. In the 18th century the architect Garove who was working on the reconstruction of part of the nearby Castle totally rebuilt it. The San Grato Votive Chapel represents the second important architectonical construction within the town park on the San Grato Hill. The Chapel named so after the hill was built in honour of one of the Warriors Saints who belonged to the "Legion Tebea". The Chapel was placed on the fringe of the inhabited area in a predominant position as to protect the village from "invaders". Morenica Hill, "collina" in Italian, originated at the end of the Ice Age and presents extremely interesting naturalistic elements as its erratic boulders were transported from the ancient glacier of the Susa Valley and scattered throughout the area. Positioned between the rivers Dora Riparia and Sangone, this area is crossed by paths and trails connecting the Rivoli Castle to the Avigliana lakes, amazing locations for easy hiking, biking or horseback riding. Besides the natural beauty, these places also show traces of a centuries-old farming culture in old farmhouses, votive pillars and country churches spread throughout the territory.
