Ancient chapel from 1200

The medieval Church of San Martino, placed outside the town walls, was an important church due to the extension of the parish and the number of parishioners. The originary religious building, erected in the Romanesque age in an area known as "San Martino ai Campi", was later moved inside the town walls during the 13th century (1291). The gothic building that hosted the new parish was in such a decay that the new priest said: "it looked more like a cave than the house of Lord". Finally in 1786 the architect Contini was in charge of designing a new church, which was inaugurated on the day of Saint Martin 1787 and consecrated on June 15th 1788.
